Black History Month 2024

Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,

Dear ARS Parents and Guardians,

We have just completed 100 days of school and are now moving forward to finish the rest of the school year with enthusiasm. Alhamdulilah! I am delighted to share that the ARS teams have planned some engaging learning experiences for our students and staff during Black History Month. These activities are designed to encourage our children to use their voices and words positively to make a significant change in our society. We believe that these activities will inspire our students to demonstrate the power of their voices and words, and to bring about positive change in our world.

Our ARS Black History Month Committee’s Goals are:

  • Continue to raise awareness of the struggles and challenges by learning history,
  • To celebrate the achievements and accomplishments of African American heroes who shaped human history.
  • Also, to derive motivation and inspiration to be proactive and instrumental in changing the community’s mindset at large through developing meaningful and purposeful experiences starting from our classrooms.

Weekly Themes:

  • Week 1: Feb 5: Islam
  • Week 2:  Feb 6: Social Justice
  • Week 3: Feb 13: Science/ Technology
  • Week 4: Feb 21: Education

Learning Experiences:

  • Lessons are designed to include weekly themes that cover a wide range of topics and subjects to keep students engaged and interested in learning.
  • Class Project Bulletin Board: Teachers and students jointly work on this project.
  • Virtual Exhibit for Students and Their Families: 2024 Black History Month: We have resources and activities that you can use at home with your child.
  • Onsite Exhibit will be on display at the end of the month. This will contain students’ work.
  • Morning Assembly Trivia: Who am I? Please encourage your child to participate in the morning trivia by helping them submit the answers by going to the school website, here. The questions are posted during the morning assembly, and teachers remind their students to note them down.
  • Special Student Assembly for the grades 5th thru 8th.

JazakAllah khair for support.
